The Nigeria senior women’s team, Super Falcons faltered in Bata on Sunday, failing to hold onto an early goal to lose 1-2 to Equatorial Guinea and crash out of the race for the Women’s Football Tournament of the 2016 Olympics.
Midfielder Ngozi Okobi put Nigeria ahead in the 12th minute, but the Falcons then conceded the equalizer with only four minutes left, off a free -kick.
The Nigerian girls, who could only draw the first leg 1-1 in Abuja, were then caught off-guard in a goal-mouth scramble with only eight minutes left in extra time.
The result means Equatorial Guinea will play South Africa, while Cameroon face Cote d’Ivoire for the two tickets available to Africa for the Women’s Football Tournament of next year’s Olympics.
