The Organizing Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation will meet in a few days to decide on a new date and venue for the grand finale of the 2015 men and women Federation Cup competitions.
NFF General Secretary, Dr. Mohammed Sanusi, explained on Friday that Nigeria’s men and women teams heading to the 11th All-Africa Games will travel about the same day as the earlier proposed date for the grand finale.
“It is true that at the draw ceremony for the national finals of the Federation Cup, the NFF had picked August 30 as date for the grand finale. But a number of factors have now combined to make the date unrealistic.
“Yes, we have the finalist teams in both the men and women events. But our Super Falcons and the U-23 men’s team will travel to Brazzaville for the All-Africa Games at about the same day, and a number of the teams involved in the grand finale have players in the two teams.”
Sanusi assured that the NFF Organizing Committee, headed by 1st Vice President Seyi Akinwunmi, will hold a meeting soon to determine the new date.
“The 11th All-Africa Games will end on September 19. We will pick a date for the Federation Cup grad finale after this date, but most likely the date would be towards the end of September.”
Bayelsa Queens of Yenagoa and Sunshine Queens of Akure will contest the women’s Federation Cup final, while Lobi Stars of Makurdi and Akwa United of Uyo will battle for the men’s gong.
